SOUTHERN UNITED STATES TRADE ASSOCIATION
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DISCUSSES HOW UNREST IN EGYPT COULD AFFECT LOUISIANA TRADE

Online PR News – 01-March-2011 –NEW ORLEANS – In an interview with New Orleans CBS television affiliate WWL, Jerry Hingle, executive director of the Southern United States Trade Association, discusses how unrest in Egypt could affect Louisiana trade.

According to the news report, Louisiana exports several products to Egypt and ranks eighth among countries that are markets for Louisiana exports. In 2010, Louisiana companies shipped more than $1 billion in products to Egypt, a total which has doubled since 2005.

Hingle reinforces Louisiana’s role in Middle Eastern countries, saying "a lot of Middle Eastern markets really love American products, and Louisiana products actually have a certain cachet in some of these markets, as well. Our sauces and spices out of Louisiana are known around the world."

According to the news report, exports to Egypt are primarily agricultural products, including cotton and soybeans.

"Soybean is the second most important export out of Louisiana, and Egypt is a very important buyer," Hingle said.
