One month after Black Friday, only a few online poker rooms offer money games to American players, and Carbon Poker is now the best US online poker site in 2011 and beyond, as new legislation will take years to emerge.

Online PR News – 19-May-2011 –One month after the Black Friday of online poker on April 15th 2011, there are only a few online poker rooms offering real money games to American players, and the top one by traffic is now Carbon Poker. But hundreds of online poker rooms operate legally in the rest of the world.

This is somehow ironic as poker was invented in the USA and the online poker boom as we know it started in the USA as well in 2003, when American amateur player Chris Moneymaker won the WSOP main event after obtaining his seat to the event at a $39 satellite tournament hosted by pokerstars, earning 2.5 million dollars for his title of world champion.

Defenders of personal freedom have been wondering for the past month why the Department of Justice has been witch hunting online poker rooms since 2006, date of the inception of UIGEA, which is the law in question that the four banned online poker rooms are accused of breaching. And some were quick to point out that this situation is akin to the so-called ‘Prohibition’ from 1920 to 1933. Similarly at that time Puritanism tried to restrain the entire population from having a good time, but freedom prevailed in the end.

Another irony of this situation is that some smaller online poker rooms such as Carbon Poker are massively benefiting from the crackdown of the majors, because they have been filling some of the void as they welcome American players. It is legal to play online poker at Carbon Poker for anyone of gambling age as they follow US gambling laws.

The benefits of this situation go to the players too, as more traffic means more promotions. For instance the $50K Guaranteed Sunday has now a guaranteed prize pool of $100k. And players can win their seat to the tournament by playing in the ‘100 Seats to the $100k Freeroll’. Entry to the freeroll is given to all players who earned 250 VIP points the previous week, which are points earned by all players at real money tables as they play. In essence you can get the $109 entry fee for free if you play regularly and finish in the top 100 of the freeroll.

There are only a handful of online poker rooms left in the USA, but why did most players choose to migrate to Carbon Poker. We asked poker aficionado Paul Martin who said, “Traffic is one reason and there is a snowball effect. Then they are the only one with a bad beat jackpot, and this can make a lifetime difference. The room is safe and trustworthy with no history of payment problems whatsoever. The software is fast and sleek. They have a VIP program with good value for active players. You can multi table with resizable tables. Yes it is not pokerstars, but for casual players it is perfect.”

The bottom line is that despite the current crackdown, it is legal to play online poker in the United States and there are still a few options available to US players, the best of which being Carbon Poker. This is not expected to change until 2012 or 2013 as online gambling law reforms will take at least a year before they get started.
