Online PR News – 20-May-2011 –SERI KEMBANGAN, April 16, 2011: When it comes to putting their money, or in this case their business where the mouth is, the QI Group of Companies stands out as one that promotes vegetarianism to uphold its corporate policy of being against animal cruelty.
A multinational conglomerate comprising of a dynamic group of companies with regional offices in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia, the QI Group also has a wide range of subsidiary companies in nearly 30 countries that follow the same policy.
Resident Director for Malaysia, Kuna Senathirajah said from its very inception 13 years ago, the QI Group had abided by a fundamental rule that all life is sacred.
“Hence, we are against any form of cruelty to animals and have made it our corporate policy to promote and serve only vegetarian food during all our functions – be they corporate luncheons, media events or feeding thousands at a convention.
“We also discourage staff from bringing meat dishes into our corporate offices at QI Tower at PJ8, Petaling Jaya. However, we do not insist that our employees be vegetarians as that is a personal choice,” Kuna said.
He was speaking at the sidelines of the Petz PowWow Carnival at Mines Square, Mines Shopping Mall in Seri Kembangan today, where the Group’s subsidiary, QNet, played its vegetarian video to all who stopped by their booth.
Kuna also quoted two famous personalities who supported vegetarianism. American inventor and scientist, Thomas Edison, said, “‘Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages’.
“And in the words of Sir Paul McCartney, 'the greatest change the world could make today is to reduce the killing of animals for food’.”
The QI Group, Kuna said, is probably the only one in Malaysia and one of the few in the world to embrace the promotion of vegetarianism as an expression of its stand against animal cruelty.
“Of course it was not easy in the beginning. Many of our international directors and the majority of our 300 staff at QI Tower are meat eaters, so convincing them to accept a vegetarian corporate policy was not easy.
“However, everyone embraced this policy once they understood its significance and the fact that animal cruelty is wrong in terms of our humanity,” he said.
