Online PR News – 06-August-2011 –Ford Arts, Beats & Eats presented by Citizens Bank today announced it has officially opened registration for its first-ever 5K walk/run - The Priority Health Arts in Motion 5K presented by Detroit Medical Center (DMC) Sports Medicine. The walk/run will be held Saturday, September 3. Runner check in will be from 7:30-8:30 a.m. with race starting at 9 a.m.

The run/walk events at the festival are a product of true collaboration. The Priority Health Arts in Motion 5K presented by DMC Sports Medicine is open to runners and walkers of all ages. The walk/run will benefit the Michigan Youth Arts, a statewide association that serves as an alliance of arts education organizations across artistic disciplines: creative writing, dance, instrumental music, media arts, music composition, theater, visual arts and vocal music. Proceeds from the run will support many Michigan Youth Arts Programs.

“The Priority Health Arts in Motion 5K is a great way to get the community involved in healthy initiatives, as well as encourage a more active lifestyle,” said Joan Budden, chief marketing officer, Priority Health. “Promoting a healthy lifestyle, while raising money for arts education, fosters a culture of overall wellness and support, which is a critical foundation for all Michigan communities.”

“The arts, a healthy diet, and exercise are a perfect combination and that's why we have partnered with the organizers of Arts, Beats and Eats. When you have a healthy mind, you have a healthy body," said Stephen Lemos, M.D., DMC Sports Medicine. "This 5K will advocate that a fitness program can start with just a few minutes every day. Whether you run, jog or walk, it's a step in the right direction to promote a healthier you, which leads to a healthier community."

The course will wind through the park and tree-lined neighborhoods of Royal Oak. Artists of all ages will perform along the route and in Starr Jaycee Park, as well as install visual and interactive art in the park. Participants are invited to run or walk in costume, form a team, or dance their way through the 5k. Awards will be given to the most creative participants. Prizes will be awarded for best individual costume and most creative team theme.

The cost for the chip-timed 5K run is $35. Cost for the 5K fun run/walk $30.
