Online PR News – 18-August-2011 –Carinsurancerates.com, an online source of auto insurance information and offers, recently completed a poll of hundreds of its visitors regarding the frequency of smartphone use when filing a claim. The poll shows that compared to the same time last year, claims-filing on smartphone devices has tripled so far in 2011. An increasing number of insurers are offering the option as well.
“What our poll shows is an explosion in filing auto claims through applications on mobile handsets. If this trend continues, we would not be surprised if mobile devices eventually almost rival calling as the preferred method of filing a claim,” said Nathan Ackerman, spokesman for Car Insurance Rates.
Drivers with smartphones, such as the Blackberry, iPhone, or Android, can download apps that allow them to file their claim from start to finish at the scene of an accident. Virtually every major insurer has introduced a claims app within the past year or two.
“Auto insurers’ response to the explosion in smartphone popularity has been quite timely. Carriers recognized the opportunity to make claims-filing more convenient for policyholders, and they were successfully able to capitalize on the technology of the smartphone, a device that is rapidly becoming ubiquitous these days,” said Mr. Ackerman.
Yet another benefit of claims apps on smartphones is that they provide the driver with checklists and reminders as to the information he/she must collect and remember in order to file a claim successfully. Because drivers are often flustered and overwhelmed at the scene of an accident, these apps can provide structure and guidance to facilitate the claims-filing process.
