Tony Stark’s New Roadster Reveals Itself on Set of ‘The Avengers’
Online PR News – 13-September-2011 –PEABODY, Mass., – Iron Man is ditching his Audi R8 in favor of his own special Acura roadster in the next Marvel Studios film, “The Avengers,” shooting now in preparation for its May 2012 premier. Acura’s partnership with Marvel Studios has put several of the luxury automaker’s products in the limelight, from the Acura MDX to the Acura TL, but never before has an all-new Acura been built solely for the big screen.
Acura fans got their first glimpse of the automaker’s Marvel invasion last year in “Iron Man 2” when a post-credits scene previewing the upcoming “Thor” movie featured numerous Acura vehicles in the hands of Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division (S.H.I.E.L.D.) agents. Acuras were also used by the same fictional worldwide peace-keeping agency in “Captain America: The First Avenger” when it debuted this summer, and that trend is expected to continue in “The Avengers.”

While Acura vehicles in earlier Marvel Studios films included SUVs and crossovers like the Acura MDX and ZDX, the all-new model driven by Tony Stark in “The Avengers” points to Acura’s sports-car history, which includes the Ferrari-beating Acura NSX. Iron Man’s droptop features burgundy paint with silver accents and a shape that indicates incredible performance. Acura has been keen to polishing its sport credentials off-screen as well, recently releasing the refreshed 2012 Acura TL and announcing the 2012 TSX Special Edition due to debut at Acura dealers in late September.
Double-wishbone suspensions and powerful engines are a part of every Acura TSX, but the Special Edition adds a more dramatic feel and sportier attitude. Exterior changes include an aggressive front spoiler and side sills that add more flare to the TSX’s flanks. Unique rims featuring polished spokes finish the exterior package, but the details continue inside.
Acura TSX Special Edition drivers will find black suede inserts in the seats featuring red stitching, which also makes its way to the steering wheel and shift knob. Buyers have a choice of either a six-speed-manual transmission or five-speed-automatic gearbox that are each connected to a responsive 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine producing 201 horsepower.
“The TSX Special Edition will appeal to those who enjoy the sporty drive of the TSX and want to add a little more attitude to the car,” Avery noted. “It’s a great looking package both inside and out, and really sets the TSX apart from the competition.”
