Insurers affiliated with House Insurance Rates recently expressed their approval of the Senate progressing a bill last week that would continue the National Flood Insurance Program, which was just a few weeks away from its expiration date.

Online PR News – 12-September-2011 –HouseInsuranceRates.com, an independent referral site for home insurance quotes and other information, has posted the reactions of a few of its affiliated insurers to the Senate last week moving the renewal of the National Flood Insurance Program bill out of committee for further action. The move comes right as the program was set to end in the coming weeks and as large parts of the country struggle with flood damage from a particularly brutal string of storms.

“Many of our insurers cannot provide flood insurance is especially flood-prone areas because it is not financially viable, which is exactly why the government offers the National Flood Insurance Program. The program provides affordable coverage to homeowners in high-risk areas, and our insurers are definitely very pleased to see the program renewed for another five years,” said Damon Williams, spokesman for House Insurance Rates.

Now that the bill has passed the committee phase, it will go to the Senate floor for a vote then, if passed, would need to be integrated into the House’s version that already passed earlier this year. While politicians are hoping to fast-track the approval of the bill, they will need to move particularly expeditiously to beat the September 30 expiration date of the program.

“If this program expires, many of our visitors would be put in a dangerous limbo phase during an especially bad time for storms. At the very least, that would result in delays and difficulties in processing any claims until Congress finally acts, and at the worst, homeowners would be left entirely without coverage. Our site and our partner insurers are happy that the legislation seems to be on track because the consequences for our visitors would otherwise be pretty dire,” said Williams.
