Volkswagen Turns Up the Wick with 2012 Golf R Contact Information Share and Connect New Trim Will Be Most Powerful Production VW Golf Ever Online PR News – 26-October-2011 –MANCHESTER, N.H., Oct. 26, 2011 – Volkswagen is preparing to roll out its most powerful production Golf ever, dubbed the Golf R. Featuring a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine built for high output and a sophisticated all-wheel-drive system, the 2012 Golf R will reach U.S. Volkswagen dealerships early next year. As a successor to the throne once held by the Golf R32, last sold in 2008, the R trim of the 2012 Volkswagen Golf ups the ante with more horsepower, more torque and even better fuel economy. Volkswagen also added a few styling changes to differentiate its hottest Golf from the rest of the lineup, including LED daytime running lights, a black grill and twin center-mounted exhaust pipes. “Volkswagen has always placed a premium on fun and the Golf R is the pinnacle of that focus,” said Frank Carnucci, general manager of Quirk Volkswagen, a New Hampshire Volkswagen dealer. “The 2012 Golf R is the perfect car for commuters looking for performance that won’t let up no matter the weather, combined with impeccable build quality and interior materials.” Volkswagen endowed the Golf R with a 256-horsepower engine that delivers 243 pound-feet of torque through a six-speed manual gearbox. All that power makes it to the ground thanks to an innovative Haldex all-wheel-drive system that allows for sub-six-second sprints to 60 mph. Thanks to direct-injection technology, the Golf R’s fuel economy doesn’t suffer from all that power and traction, returning 27 mpg on the highway. Inside, the Golf R gets unique touches like its own special upholstery, door sills, shift knob and steering wheel, as well as standard leather seating. Golf R drivers will also get dual-zone automatic climate control and an eight-speaker sound system complete with Bluetooth, iPod connectivity and an in-dash six-CD changer. In fact, there are few choices to be made with the Golf R thanks to the single option package, the Sunroof and Navigation pack, which also includes a more powerful 300-watt Dynaudio sound system. VW fans can also choose whether they want two or four doors. While it will be the most powerful model in Volkswagen’s lineup, the new Golf R will be joining other performance-oriented vehicles like the VW GTI, Jetta GLI and Turbo Beetle. All three vehicles feature VW’s tried and true 2.0-liter TSI turbocharged engine, a unit that produces 200 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque. While their power might be equal, their distinctly different body styles appeal to a wide variety of performance-loving VW drivers. “Volkswagen customers that want a little extra juice in their daily drive now have quite a few options,” Carnucci added. “Hot-hatch lovers can turn to the Golf R or GTI, while those with families may want a four-door Jetta GLI. If they are looking for some funky flair with their performance, they’ll find a friend in the Turbo Beetle.” About Quirk Volkswagen NH:
