Due to increasing popularity in the ‘posh camping experience’, Yorkshire Yurts are making big steps to expand their Yurt Holidays with additional locations in Yorkshire and across the UK.
Online PR News – 24-November-2011 –Due to increasing popularity in the ‘posh camping experience’, Yorkshire Yurts are making big steps to expand their Yurt Holidays with additional locations in Yorkshire and across the UK. The business is in the process of re-branding their holiday lettings division to ‘Yurtshire’ and has ambitious plans to increase the number of UK holiday locations via lucrative joint ventures with landowners.
Tom Sterne - Director of Yorkshire Yurts explains “We are offering landowners and investors an exciting opportunity to become part of this growing industry. Camping as a whole in the UK has seen a huge increase over the last couple of years, due to travel tax, the infamous dust cloud and the economy. In 2009 an estimated 4 million trips took place, in 2010 this rose to 5.43 million and is expected to reach 6 million by the end of 2011.”
Tom continues “An increased awareness of ‘carbon footprint’ means there is also a higher demand for more sustainable holidays. All our sites are ‘off grid’ which means we are not connected up to the mains electric, gas or sewerage. Lantern, candles and torches are used for light. Fires, gas canisters and barbeques are used for cooking. We provide solar showers, hot gas showers, wood burning hot tubs as well as compost toilets. All our Yurts are fully equipped with beds, Egyptian cotton bedding and everything that’s needed for a ‘posh camping’ experience.”
“Our Yurts appeal to a wide market and each comes equipped with double bed and double and single futon, which means we can cater for couples on a romantic break or groups of friends or family just wanting to get away from it all. Our chosen partners will be required to undertake changeovers and meet /greet guests. At 80% occupancy this works out at around 2 bookings per Yurt per week (approximately 1.25 hrs per changeover). We take care of the whole process from gaining the appropriate planning consent, provision of the Yurt plus everything else they need to get their site operating and finally, generate the all important bookings.”
“We will set up the site at cost price and just takes a commission on the bookings. We are also on hand to help and advise where necessary with general maintenance. People may ask - what is the catch? To which I would reply that we are in the early days of our partnership and are keen to generate more sites in order to meet demand and grow the business. Obviously all sites will be different and the returns and occupancy levels will vary, we are able to show interested parties all the costs involved and discuss projected returns. Another advantage of having us on board is that with our existing brand, marketing and PR team you are ensured that you are instantly generating bookings in year one and we expect partners to see an excellent return on their investment!”
“All our figures and projections are approved by accountants and we are more than happy to discuss these with interested parties. In certain instances we may also enter into a different agreement where we would locate our own Yurts on sites, resulting in a lower monetary investment. Whatever the circumstances, we would like to talk to people, I urge anyone considering this to get in touch as we are more than happy to discuss the finer detail.”
Key requirements for sites are at least ½ acre of picturesque land to house the Yurts, this can be on unproductive agricultural land, such as felled woodland or poor grazing areas, it doesn’t have to be premium land, thus providing an opportunity to generate additional income without sacrificing other revenue generators. The site needs to be reasonably level and have a water supply in fairly close proximity. The land also needs to be easily accessible with an area to park cars.
David and Denise Matthews are dairy farmers from Castleton in the Peak District. They have also run holiday cottages for several years. Yorkshire Yurts set up at their farm in 2010 Denise Matthews said “It has been a pleasure working with Yorkshire Yurts (now Yurtshire). They set up the yurts beautifully and keep us informed of all new bookings, the guests love it and it is a great additional income to our holiday cottage business”.
Yurtshire has a simple concept, beautiful Yurts in stunning locations and as a result found one of their locations featured in the BBC Comedy Drama Series ‘Sugartown’ earlier this summer.
Posh camping also known as ‘Glamping’ first made an appearance at Festivals such as Glastonbury, being a popular choice amongst celebrities. Ready furnished Tipis and Yurts provide a highly desirable alternative to roughing it. This has now gone beyond the festival scene and is a very attractive destination”
In addition to holidays, Yorkshire Yurts have recently purchased a 33ft Yurt which is available for event hire for occasions such as weddings, private dinner parties, festivals and has a capacity of to seat up to 90 people and stand around 120 people. This brings additional opportunities for venues and landowners who maybe looking to offer a unique alternative to marquees. Yorkshire Yurts are holding an open weekend in Ripon, North Yorkshire on Friday 9 & Saturday 10 December where both their Holiday and Event Yurts can be viewed.
