Eastern Lions Soccer Club has just had one of its most successful seasons in its 48 year history, winning three league titles, in the reserves, under 18 and under 12 competitions of 2011.

Online PR News – 24-December-2011 –Eastern Lions Soccer Club, based in Burwood, Melbourne Australia has just had one of its most successful seasons in its 48 year history winning three league titles

The Reserves, Under 18's and Under 12's all won their respective leagues. It’s hard enough winning one league title, let alone three, and to add icing to the cake, there are six young players that have been selected for the Eastern Region Representative Team competing in The Victorian Champions League.

It is no accident that these teams have been successful as Eastern Lions Soccer Club has been a pioneer in developing young soccer players by following a proven curriculum, designed to ensure players of excellent technical skill. The coaching curriculum is based on Coerver , the worlds # 1 coaching system and ensures that players spend a lot of time honing their ball skills and become technically gifted.

"The main reason for our success is all down to the development pathway that we have put in place for our young players, from 5 and 6 years old thru to 18 year old players" explained Nigel Reed, the clubs Junior Coaching Director. Nigel instigated the program and has seen players develop from the Under 8's to the 1st team over a ten year period. "Its a fantastic feeling, knowing that the club has developed some really fine soccer players using this system, and over the next few years we expect to see some of our juniors playing in the A-League" says Reed. "We are looking to build on the successes of last year, and will be continue to improve our coaching to help ensure that the Lions are among the best junior soccer clubs melbourne has in the eastern suburbs”

All of the junior coaches at Eastern Lions are expected to adopt the Coerver techniques, particularly in the younger years where a focus on the “Ball Mastery” drills play a vital part in helping younger players improve their ball control and confidence with the ball. Ball Mastery is just one of a number of Coerver techniques used, and using a variety of drill that ensure the players have fun whilst developing much needed skills for the game. There is a large emphasis on the individuals players skill and technique, which includes ball mastery, learning moves to beat an opponent and learning how to create space from defenders by developing skills to help with change of direction and “stops and starts” to try and fool the defender and gain a much needed yard or two.

“We develop the individual skill level first, and ensure that players have a lot of 1v1 and 2v2 drills where they need to utilise god skill and technique to evade defenders. The individual skill is then combined with a variety of group play drills, like 4v4 games to help develop the team aspects of the game and encourage passing, good running off the ball and support play” Reed says. The development pathway and coaching techniques cover both attacking and defending skills as proven by the Under 12 team that scored a whopping 70 goals and conceding a very miserly 7 goals, all in 18 matches in a highly competitive league

Eastern Lions has proven to be a great place for players to develop and one of the best junior soccer clubs melbourne has to offer and are looking forward to another good season in 2012 and is confident that the continued use of Coerver soccer drills combined with the “Eastern Lions Development Pathway” will ensure that Eastern Lions Soccer club remains one of the best soccer clubs in Melbourne by providing outstanding junior soccer coaching in melbourne and continuing the promotion of soccer players to the highest possible standards.

Eastern Lions Soccer Club is a grass roots community based soccer club located at Sixth Avenue, Burwood Victoria 3125.
