The AICTE CMAT examination offers scopes to aspirants to get admission in more than 3,500 MBA programs offered by universities across India.

Online PR News – 08-August-2012 –The AICTE Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) examination for the academic year 2013-15 will be conducted in September-October 2012. This is the only examination that offers a chance for students to get admitted in over 3,500 MBA programs offered by various Indian universities. Dr. S S Mantha, chairman of AICTE, told MBAUniverse.com, “CMAT is the sole test for over 3,500 MBA programs across universities in India.”

States like Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Nagaland and Goa have accepted CMAT as the sole test for the admission in the MBA programs conducted by state universities, he said. So, instead of holding state-level tests like MAH CET (Maharashtra), UPSEE (Uttar Pradesh), and RMAT (Rajasthan), etc for the MBA admission for the academic year 2013-15, the states will accept the CMAT scores, Mantha added. All states are expected to use CMAT for the admissions 2013.

The number of seats offered by the MBA and PGDM programs approved by AICTE for the year 2011-12 was 3,52,571. Besides IIMs and IITs, 3,644 MBA institutes in India are approved by the AICTE.

The admission process through CMAT involves providing a detailed merit list of candidates to the respective state governments for allotment through central counseling. In case there is no central counseling, scores awarded will be used for admission in the AICTE-approved institutes or university departments, said Dr Mantha.

Apart from the universities, there are 308 PGDM institutes which will also accept CMAT scores, along with four other national exams like CAT, XAT, MAT and ATMA. According to the Supreme Court judgment dated July 10, 2012, the PGDM institutes can accept scores of any five MBA entrance examinations such as CAT, XAT, ATMA, MAT and CMAT.

The date for the AICTE CMAT examination was announced on July 31, 2012. The computer-based test will be held in a window of four days -- from September 27 to October 1, 2012. The registration process has begun on August 3 and the last date is September 2. The test will be held across 64 cities in India.

As Dr Mantha had earlier said, the CMAT examination will be held twice a year. After the September/October test, the next examination would be conducted in January-February 2013. Students can take both the exams and the best of the scores will be accepted for the admission process.

The duration of CMAT examination is 180 minutes and the paper comprises four sections -- quantitative techniques & data interpretation, logical reasoning, language comprehension and general awareness. The total number of questions is 100 with 25 in each of the sections. Each correct answer carries four marks and there is no negative marking.

The very first AICTE CMAT exam was conducted in a nine-day window, from February 20, 2012, to February 28, 2012.
