Distinguished scientist joins top-flight advisory board to help conservation organization determine program funding priorities

Online PR News – 16-August-2012 –Today, Stuart Pimm, President of SavingSpecies announced that distinguished biologist E.O. Wilson will join the Science Advisory Board of SavingSpecies.

Dr. Wilson, University Research Professor Emeritus at Harvard University, is an expert on biogeography and ecology and has authored numerous books and scientific papers. A two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, Wilson is renowned as a champion of conservation and for educating the public about the importance of—and threats to—biodiversity.

“I am just delighted that Ed has joined the team!” said Dr. Pimm. “E.O. Wilson is one of the world’s finest scientists. His passionate commitment to the conservation of biodiversity has inspired countless people to protect and restore nature,” said Pimm. “We look forward to using his immense wisdom to conserve wildlife across the globe.”

Founded by conservation scientists, SavingSpecies’ innovative projects restore and preserve habitat for endangered wildlife. At the same time, the conservation programs help SavingSpecies contributors to be carbon neutral. With ever-increasing pressure for conservation priorities, the expertise of E. O. Wilson will help SavingSpecies determine funding among various projects, according to Dr. Pimm.

SavingSpecies’ Science Advisory Board makes all funding and program decisions—a fact that distinguishes SavingSpecies from every other conservation organization. The addition of Dr. Wilson to the Science Advisory Board brings the number of conservation scientists on the Board to five. Other members of the Board include: Stuart Pimm, Peter Raven, Tom Lovejoy and Patricia Wright.
