The Transitional Care Unit (TCU) at Southern Ocean Medical Center celebrates a decade of service.
Online PR News – 04-September-2012 – NJ – Manahawkin, NJ - The Transitional Care Unit (TCU) at Southern Ocean Medical Center celebrated a decade of service in August since it’s opening in 2002. This unique unit has helped hundreds of patients over the years make a successful transition from the acute care hospital setting back to their homes.
The TCU is an inpatient sub acute unit in the hospital that helps patients regain skills that will help them better care for themselves. The TCU has its own rehabilitation team that works with each patient on a plan tailored to his or her individual recovery.
“Our TCU is dedicated to helping patients increase their mobility and endurance and help prepare our patients to best care for themselves when they return home”, says Joseph Coyle, president of Southern Ocean Medical Center. “Our TCU staff also helps our patients understand their illness or injury and gives them the tools and information to help maintain their health.”
Common conditions treated in the TCU over the years include knee and hip replacement, stroke, wound care, respiratory conditions, general debilitation, orthopedic conditions and post-surgical recovery.
“We are especially proud of the quality of our TCU program as evidenced by 11 consecutive annual surveys by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services as well as the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services”, says Coyle.
“This has been a very valuable health service for our community and we look forward to the next decade as we continue to bring the highest level of sub acute care to our TCU patients in bridging the gap between hospital and home,” says Coyle.
