Online PR News – 19-September-2012 –Local Atlanta Farm Company (“LOAF Co.”), an Atlanta-based company, launched their first crowd-sourcing fundraiser to kick-off their grass roots campaign to bring their hydroponic mobile farms to life in their hometown.

LOAF Co. is the brainchild of husband and wife team Niko and Kathlika Fontes. Between the two of them, they have years of consumer goods, retail management, and non-profit experience and a shared love of the city they have called home for nearly 20 years.

Co-Founder Kathlika Fontes says that hearing about residents in Atlanta who live in food deserts moved her to action: “The resources of our city – the space to grow, the economics to make it happen, and that love of neighbor that’s so common down here in the South – are enough to address and fix the crisis of food scarcity.”

Like other metropolitan cities in the US, Atlanta has incongruent social and economic communities throughout the city. Purchasing fresh vegetables for dinner during the week can mean walking miles or taking a lengthy bus ride just to get to a well-stocked grocery store. Not to mention the cost of better quality, clean raw food.
LOAF Co. say the convenience of their mobile hydroponic farms solve the problem. Their customers include local residents living below the poverty line whose purchases are subsidized by revenues from the rest of their customers, those who shop at grocery stores or eat the food they distribute to local restaurants.

“Every time a customer selects our lettuce or our peppers from a grocery store shelf or orders a fresh spring salad from a restaurant that buys our produce, they make a micro-donation to help their neighbors in need, says co-Founder Niko Fontes.
“We have the ability to grow quality produce and sell it at affordable prices to every person, no matter what their economic standing. All fresh and at low prices. Our concept revolutionizes how fresh food is distributed to our local communities.
Hydroponically grown foods are of the highest quality because the entire grow cycle is quality-controlled. Every single nutrient is carefully chosen, pesticide-free and preservative-free. Medical experts endorse eating fresh toxin free produce as a way of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

LoAF Co. needs your help. Please support their efforts to make a change in the way people think about food. You can be part of this new paradigm, where you don’t have to be wealthy to have affordable access to the very best foods.
