Online PR News – 20-September-2012 – London – The final finishing of the laundered product in a standard commercial laundry is becoming more important as time goes on. In golf there is a term “drive for show and putt for dough” and it seems that this analogy is equally important for the finishing of the products in a commercial laundry equipment operation. The customer does not see the process route only the finished article so he will gain a number of impressions from seeing the washing arriving fully finished. Obviously the cleanliness of the material is always important but presuming that this has been suitably carried out during the washing cycle then the finishing of the product is of great importance if not the number one factor that your customer takes in to consideration when you deliver his laundry back to him. This will also give an indication to the life cycle of the finished product.

These days the latest flatwork ironers are of excellent quality and the technology has improved significantly so that they are capable of giving a great finish. There have been major developments on the ironing chest and a discussion about which of different designs is best. Some manufacturers have a flexible chest which they claim will give a more even pressure on the material being processed whilst another manufacturer makes a major claim that a rigid chest will allow a stronger pressure to be applied and that this pressure will give a better finish. There is some merit to both claims but the rigid chest has focussed some attention to the process but there is still some room for discussion.

The speed of operation is not just about manual control as some machines are able to control the process automatically, this is important in the processing of flatwork products. In this case the machine detects the type of linen and the humidity and will adjust the process to provide and even drying of the material. This is claimed to speed up the operation considerably and to provide an excellent finish as the machine determines any changes and will change speed according to the state of the product. The operator still has the option of using the automatic system or can change to the manual controls and work the machine in that system. This can be useful when the material that is to be processed is already fairly even in humidity and the product being finished is a fairly standard material and there is no requirement to determine the material being finished.
