Online PR News – 23-September-2012 – Mesa Ariziona – Business Puts Arts First | 1 Shirt = 1 Opportunity™.

Yes To The Arts is a fashion business with a conscience selling creatively designed vintage t-shirts with the profits allowing more students to be involved in their free after school arts education program. Local teacher and actress Indiia Wilmott founded the organization and would like to expand the program with more mentors and schools in the future.

"I started Yes To The Arts because I believe that the arts should always be a part of free public education.” said Wilmott. “I don't want to imagine a world without museums, theaters or opera houses. So, I'm committed to giving every student a chance to say yes to the arts."

With the lack of funding or cutting of arts programs in schools, Yes To The Arts will give students an opportunity to remain and learn in a creative environment. More than 50 students are currently participating in Yes To The Art’s pilot program at Academia Del Pueblo Charter School in Phoenix. And they’re getting free lessons from arts teachers as well as singers, dancers and actors who have performed on local stages.

One of the mentors, Marisa Peck, said the arts have been a major influence in her life. Peck, who also teaches at a local school, began performing in community theater at 10-years-old and understands the importance of the arts in a child’s life.

“I have been able to introduce students to performing and seen how it has made them grow as a student and as a person,” said Peck. “Yes To The Arts will do the same for kids who aren't able to have these opportunities and that's what I want to be a part of.”

The organization believes that the arts should be a part of every child's education. Their goal is to create an environment where creativity, responsibility, and citizenship thrive.
