Online PR News – 06-October-2012 –Week 6 of the NCAA Football season kicked off on Thursday with the No 13 Trojans traveling to Salt Lake City and pulling out a 38-28 victory over the Utah Utes. USC turned the ball over twice in the first quarter, and faced a 14-0 deficit before rallying to win. In other games Jerome Smith rushed for 61 yards on 10 carries, as Syracuse came away victorious over the Pittsburgh Panthers, while BYU in a defensive struggle beat Utah State 6-3.
A full schedule of College Football games will take place on Saturday from the early morning hours, and come to a close at 10:30 pm eastern time. With BCS Bowl bids up for grabs, teams that are currently ranked in the top 10 will need to stay on the winning track, if they expect to have a legitimate shot at participating in a BCS game, or potentially playing for the National Championship.
Saturday will feature a few highly anticipated matchups starting with No 4 LSU taking on No 10 Florida from Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Both teams enter the contest ranked among the top ten teams in the country and undefeated thus far on the season. The Tigers have been flat out dominant in recent weeks with convincing wins over Idaho, Washington and North Texas, while the Gators are coming off a impressive 37-20 victory over the No 23 Tennessee Volunteers, and crushed Kentucky 38-0.
Junior Quarterback Connor Shaw will lead the No 6 Gamecocks in to their showdown with the No 5 Bulldogs riding high off a 38-17 win over the Wildcats a week ago. In that game Shaw completed a impressive 15 out of 18 passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns. The Bulldogs come in to this matchup with one of the most explosive offenses in the country. Aaron Murray has been solid this season, as the 21 year has thrown for 12 touchdowns, and just two interceptions thus far, while the supporting cast featuring Freshman Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall, are both on pace for 1,000 yards on the ground.
Two 4-0 teams will collide from Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium with the No 11 Longhorns hosting the No 8 Mountaineers. A year ago Texas was undefeated after four games, but ended up with a disappointing 8-5 record. With Sophomore David Ash playing more consistent, and efficient football from the QB position, look for the the team to finish the season on a stronger note.
Is Geno Smith the best QB in the country? The 21 year old has been nothing short of spectacular so far this season. The 6-3 214 pound senior has thrown for 1,728 yards, 20 Touchdowns, and no interceptions thus far, with some flat out ridiculous performances. In last weeks 70-63 shootout win over Baylor, Smith completed 45-51 passes for 656 yards and 8 TD's.
In other big games No 21 Nebraska will head to Ohio Stadium and face the No 12 Buckeyes, while the No 2 ranked Oregon Ducks host the No 23 Washington Huskies in their Pac 12 showdown.
