Additionally, all support groups, voluntary health screenings and community meetings previously scheduled at the hospital facilities have been cancelled for Monday. All fitness facilities including Meridian Life Fitness in Pt. Pleasant and Brick, Meridian Fitness and Wellness in Hazlet and the Ocean Club in Stafford will be closed on Monday.
While the hospitals of Meridian Health have thorough and specific hurricane plans to continue to care for our patients as well as for those who may become injured or ill during the inclement weather, please be advised that our facilities are not hurricane shelters for the public.
Every town and county in the region has an Emergency Services or Office of Emergency Management that coordinates public shelters during hurricanes. If you must evacuate, the following shelters are available to residents of Monmouth and Ocean counties:
Barnegat: Russell O. Brackman Middle School, 550 Barnegat Blvd. North
Jackson: Jackson Liberty High School, 125 North Hope Chapel Road
Little Egg Harbor: Pinelands Middle School, 590 Nugentown Road
Stafford (Manahawkin): Southern Regional High School, 90 Cedar Bridge Road
Toms River: Poland Spring Arena, Toms River High School North, 1245 Old Freehold Road
Wall: Arthur Brisbane Child Treatment Center, 4240 Rte. 524
Long Branch: Monmouth University
State Shelters are also being set up to accommodate overflow which may occur in the local towns.
Our hospitals will suspend visitation during the height of the hurricane for safety and security reasons. You may call a loved one in the hospital provided telephone or cell phones are functioning. If you have a loved one at the hospital and do not know the direct phone number to his or her room, please call the main hospital line.
Remember, our hospitals may be on limited emergency power during a hurricane and our first responsibility will be patient care and safety.
