Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella all contain the active ingredient, drospirenone, which has been linked to an increased risk of forming lethal blood clots. According to an FDA study, this risk is 2 to 3 times greater than other birth control pills.
Blood clot complications can be very serious. Following are a few complications that have been linked to usage of Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella:
Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) the formation of a blood clot in a deep vein, predominantly in the legs.
Pulmonary Embolism (PE) a blockage caused by a blood clot that travels to the lung.
Heart Attack Blood clots that travel to a coronary artery blocking blood flow and causing damage to the heart muscle.
