Played by millions, blackball pool pool finally gets the showcase it deserves with the summer launch of a new television channel dedicated to sport.
Online PR News – 01-February-2013 – London, England – IPA PRESS RELEASE – TELEVISION COVERAGE
When the International Professional Pool Players Association (IPA) committee put their mind to something, all things become possible. Behind the scenes work over many months since the decision to join the growing black ball community has reaped its just rewards, with an announcement that a television deal has now been struck. New Freeview sports channel Legacy TV have spotted the potential of a sport played by millions, and will be showing IPA pool from their channel launch in the summer (June) of 2013. From start date onwards ALL the pro events will be recorded from the quarter finals onwards and broadcast in an evening weekly special as will the semi finals and final of all the open events plus each amateur final, so clearly something for everyone. Discussions are also taking place regarding live coverage of the season finale – the inaugural IPA World Championships.
Highflyer TV, the Yorkshire based TV company responsible for Channel 4 Horse Racing coverage for 28 years up to 2012 is backing the new venture which will start off on Sky and John Fairley, Chairman of Highflyer, said "We are very excited to add the IPA Pool Tour to our expanding list of sports who will air on Legacy TV. Legacy TV will be primarily aimed at Olympic Sports, but we have vast experience of sports like Pool, and we know that our audience will really enjoy watching top quality pool during 2013. We saw the 2012 Masters event that was aired on Sky Sports and really enjoyed the quality of the action, and the production that our partners at Horizon produced. We believe that airing a regular night-time slot will really add to the line-up that we are building up."
Adrian Battersby, Head of Production for Horizon's TV production arm (known as 247.tv) added "This is brilliant news for Pool as I feel that Legacy Sport and IPA Pool have a real synergy - the target audience is the same for both parties and I believe the relationship between IPA, Legacy and Horizon will be a long term relationship. We can't wait to get started on this project in the summer. Pool has for too long been the poor relation of bar sports when it should be leading the way. The internet audiences watching the free webcasts have been very popular and I know the TV audience will love the shows also."
Kevin Barton, Chairman of the IPA added “This is an historic day for the IPA and the sport of Blackball pool in general. Nothing on this scale has ever been attempted before but our skeptics have been proved wrong thanks to the hard work of the IPA committee, who I would like to thank for all their efforts. We already have the best players in the World on the IPA tour but now we can add the opportunity to display their skills to the watching World, cementing our place as THE premier place to play pool. With global entrants in 2013 and the inaugural IPA World Championships, this year is set to be groundbreaking for all concerned while we are certain the additional television coverage will encourage both past players and new to join the tour and try their luck via www.ipapool.com “.
