She will be discussing West Virginia coal mining by mountain top removal and Massey Energy/Coal Company destruction of over 500 mountains in the heart of Appalachia. Ms. Bonds has spoken on coal mining/mountain top removal to the UN General Assembly and worked closely with Robert Kennedy Jr. to hold Big Coal interests accountable for the destruction of over 1 million acres of land, job loss and water/wildlife habitat contamination. She carries the message that this is not coal mining but the wholesale destruction of land and people. Mountain Top Removal is a method of extracting coal; trees are bulldozed, mountain tops are blown off and debris is dumped in valleys and streams. Mountain top removal takes fewer workers and is cheaper than underground mining. Please refer to: www.crmw.net Ms. Bonds is currently involved in the support of the Clean Water Protection Act in the House of Representatives and the Appalachia Restoration Act in the Senate to ban valley fill from coal mining/mountain top removal. She is the guest speaker Saturday June 12th at 8pm at the Treehugger’s Ball - 27912 Baker Canyon Rd. Silverado, CA 92676. More information: www.canyonland.org Visit Our Site
