In an effort to grow her business further, Helvie is participating in the Martha Stewart American Made contest, for which the first round of online voting began Monday, Aug. 26. The audience votes on six category winners and one grand prize winner, according to the contest website. The audience choice awards categories are craft, design, food, garden, style and technology.
Helvie designs in her home studio in Arlington, Tennessee. She draws on her love of color and fabric to create charming but practical designs that range from dresses, rompers, ruffle pants, and tops for girls to ties and bow ties for boys. “My goal is to delight customers with a fun selection of mix and match pieces that change with the seasons,” said Helvie. The line’s most popular items have been the “Peasant” dress and the “Ruffle Bubble” romper, but her newest design, the “Bow Dress” is quickly rising to the top of the list.
Helvie also recently had the opportunity to submit a baby dress to the stylist of the NBC show Parenthood for consideration of use in an upcoming episode.
Category voting for the Martha Stewart American Made contest is ongoing through Friday, Sept. 13. Grand prize voting is to take place from Tuesday, Sept. 17, through Monday, Sept. 23. Winners are to be announced Tuesday, Sept. 24, according to the contest website.
The Audience Choice Grand Prize Award winner will receive $10,000 to further their business and a trip to New York City to attend the American Made workshop, according to the website.
If she wins the grand prize, Helvie said she would use the money to expand her line with additional styles.
