Carroll Machine Works continues to see dramatic improvement in Quoting Accuracy
Online PR News – 17-October-2013 –In order for companies like Carroll Machine Works (Pasadena, TX) to be most successful in their high-volume quoting process, they need to be able to produce estimates quickly and accurately. Especially, if they want to win jobs from customers like NASA, aerospace companies and a variety of petrochemical, oilfield and gas industries. In fact, this manufacturing supplier quotes an average of 150 RFQs (request for quotes) per week.
“We pretty much live and die by our quoting down here as we compete for every job,” says Carroll Machine Works owner & estimator Wayne Carroll. “Some parts cost 1,000 or more. We had better be estimating accurately or we’ll lose big time.”
Realizing that a manual cost estimating process couldn’t possibly meet the quoting demands brought on by a steady stream of RFQ’s, the southern job shops team initially turned to spreadsheets – but even that wasn’t enough. After reviewing a variety of options, they chose MTI Systems’ Costimator software.
“We loved what’s included for cost models and the elaborate database of processes, as well as the ability to customize it for our own use,” said Carroll. “The system is incredibly easy to use, very intuitive and helps us respond to RFQ’s quickly – especially those where the deadline is three days or less. Overall, Costimator has helped us increase our quoting speed by as much as 80% since we began using it.”
Wayne Carroll went onto say that he feels his company can bid on jobs with total confidence.
“When our customers come back to us and tell me they can get a better deal elsewhere, it has made it a lot easier to resist the temptation to bid down on the job,” he said. “Now, we know exactly what our capabilities are, what they cost and that enables us to submit incredibly accurate bids. Needless to say, we almost always win the staring contest.”
Costimator cost estimating and quoting software began development in 1982. Originally designed for suppliers, it reduces estimating time, while not compromising accuracy or consistency for manufacturers who do machining, fabrication and mechanical assembly. The cost estimating software system calculates cycle times and the cost of manufacturing a part or assembly based on the capabilities of the suppliers’ equipment and their shop rates.
In recent years, many more manufacturing processes have been added to Costimator helping to meet the needs of new technology suppliers and OEMs in industries such as, aerospace, agriculture, defense, electronics, medical, heavy truck, energy, transportation, and construction manufacturers.
