Grand Rapids Home for Veterans has recently celebrated the unveiling of their brand new entrance canopy.
Online PR News – 19-December-2013 –The $1.2 million project to build a new wall mounted canopy and entrance area was the vision of Maxine Stevens, who volunteered at the Home while her husband, Leonard was a member.
Maxine noticed that members would spend a lot of time waiting at the entrance, often in bad weather, for transportation to and from the Home, and decided to do something to help.
Outdoor canopies are a great way of providing protection from the elements and with so many bespoke canopies available; Maxine donated a large amount of money to help remodel the whole entrance area.
Sarah Dunne, administrator at Grand Rapids Home for Veterans stated, "Mikki dedicated her life to caring for others and this legacy of caring extended through to her last wish: to help make certain the veterans who live at the Grand Rapids Home had the protection of a new larger canopy…her gift to the home on her passing made this day possible and for that we are so very grateful."
The canopy officially opened in November 2013, along with brand new heated paths and entrance lighting.
