Announces Special January 2011 Group Adventure to Ethiopia
Combines Most Important Festival in the North with Best Market Days in the Tribal South
DENVER, CO, July 23, 2010 – Africa Adventure Consultants announces a January 2011 15-day small-group departure to Ethiopia that will immerse guests in the culture and history of the country’s historic North and South. Kent Redding, president of African Adventure Consultants (http://www.adventuresinafrica.com/), states that now is the best time to book.
“Timkat Festival is a very popular time to travel to Ethiopia,” Redding said. “Hotels and internal flights usually fill quickly. To our advantage, Ethiopian Airlines is currently offering huge discounts of more than 50% off on internal flights if you fly into and out of the country internationally with them. Come August 1 this offer is set to expire.”
The trip rate includes all accommodations, meals, some drinks, guides, transfers, vehicles, park fees, activities and a $25 donation to a worthy African charity. Not included are international flights, visas, tips, inoculations, travel insurance and personal items.
The trip assembles in Addis Ababa for a flight to Lalibela, famed for its 14 churches excavated directly out of the bedrock, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The itinerary then heads to Bahir Dar to explore the monasteries of Lake Tana by boat, prior to a visit to Gondar for the once-yearly Timkat Celebration that re-enacts the baptism of Jesus.
In the South guests will attend some of the most important weekly market days and will have the chance to mingle with, among others, the Dorze, known for their bee-hive-shaped, two-story houses; the Hamar, famed for the ochre body painting of their women, the Karo, renowned for their elaborate male hairdos using clay and feathers; the Dassenech, with their unique huts and scarification practice; and the most famous tribe of the South, the Mursi, known for their fierce warriors and the lip-plates worn by some of the women.
A specialist in this destination, in April 2010 Africa Adventure Consultants’ 12-day Ethiopian Epic cultural adventure was named one of the world’s “50 Tours of a Lifetime” by the editors of National Geographic Traveler magazine.
