Helen Xu received her M.D. from Beijing Medical University School of Medicine in 1992. She then served as a resident and later as an attending ophthalmologist at Beijing Friendship Hospital (BFH)-Affiliate of Capital University of Medical Sciences (CUMS) in Beijing.
In 1998, Xu began working as a vision scientist at 20/20 Vision Research Center at the University of Connecticut Health Center. In 2009 she received her O.D. from the New England College of Optometry and then worked at the Lasik Eye Center before establishing HB Eye Care Center in 2010.
