Online PR News – 25-August-2014 – Seoul, Korea – Seoul-based photographer Catherine McDonald, the founder of wanderlustography (http://www.CatherineMcDonald.com), recently participated in GBK’s 2014 Primetime Emmys Celebrity Gift Lounge, in association with The Artisan Group®, where her original photograph "What the World Needs Now" was represented as a 12” x 12” canvas print at The Artisan Group exhibit®. Catherine gifted celebrities a collection of 5” x 7” prints of scenes from around Los Angeles. The by-invitation-only Gift Lounge took place August 22-23 at an exclusive location in Beverly Hills, California.*
“What the World Needs Now” depicts one of the world’s most romantic locations, the Love Locks at Seoul Tower in Seoul, Korea. Seoul Tower is a romantic pilgrimage for those wishing to declare their love, similar to the P’ont de l’Archeveche in Paris and the Brooklyn Bridge in Brooklyn, New York. However, unlike those locations, where the locks are cut down by officials, lovers in Seoul are encouraged to place their locks in specially designated areas, where they create a colorful (and very romantic) feast for the eyes. The love locks at Seoul Tower are also a background for many Korean dramas.
“I’ve been a resident of Seoul for about a year. This shot was one of the first I took here and it is still one of my favorites,” remarked Catherine. “Preparing to move here, I researched the city and kept coming back to images of the love locks at Seoul Tower. When we arrived, and as soon as I got over the jet lag, I hiked my way to the top of Mt. Namsan to get that shot. Since then, I’ve gone back four or five times and I love it more each time. For me, it represents peace and love, two important themes in my work.”
The gifted photo set represents scenes shot around Los Angeles and were shot on a day out and about accompanied by Catherine’s native Los Angeleno husband and in-laws.
