The Stork Club lives on!

Online PR News – 02-September-2010 –Its been nearly 50 years since the Stork Club closed its doors to the public, but it's now possible to visit Sherman Billingsley's famous night spot once more. The club has returned with a fresh new website that plays up the celebrity 'it-factor' it was world renowned for. The fantastic and fun nights live on and will be preserved forever at www.storkclub.com, even though the brick and mortar Club remains closed.

For years, the Stork Club was considered to be the hottest night club around. Frank Sinatra once referred to it as a 'black tie watering hole'. On any given night, celebrities from all over would congregate at the club and mingle with other celebrities and normal folk. Walter Winchell became famous for reporting the club's many tales to the public in his widely read newspaper column.

Celebrities could hang out in a secluded & prestigious room at the club known as the 'Cub Room'. Sherman Billingsley kept this room reserved for only his most prestigious guests. He even hung some of their portraits as part of the room decor. For those who weren't privileged enough to enjoy the Cub Room, the main dining room was still a fabulous place. The dance floor was close by, and music seemed to never end allowing for all kinds of dancing. Billingsley ran a tight ship at the Stork Club. He refused admittance to unescorted women at night, used an elaborate system of hand signals with his staff, and permanently banned from the premises anyone that started a fight.

Billingsley's club became so well known and popular that he was asked to write the first entry on Nightclubs for the Encyclopedia Britannica. The Stork Club appeared in several movies of the day as well.
