This fall renown Greenwich musician and composer Michele Goritz will offer a unique new series of group music classes at her spacious Greenwich studio.
Online PR News – 07-September-2010 –Greenwich - Musicians and music lovers seeking new avenues to express themselves, as well as learn about music theory, practice and performance, will delight in some exceptional group classes being offered in Greenwich this fall.
Michele Gortiz, accomplished musician and composer, offers a wealth of new classes for groups of five at her spacious Greenwich-based Etudes Music Studios. Music Appreciation for Adults, Creative Club, Music Theory Seminars, The Exploration of Music Workshops, and Royal Conservatory of Music Workshops are all designed to teach, inspire and nurture innate musicality and music technique.
“I want to help bring out people’s creative spirit and I find that groups encourage that as people learn from each other,” says Goritz, a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, who has taught piano in Greenwich since 1993.
“Music Appreciation will help someone who likes music, but feels lost or even intimidated when they go to an orchestral concert,” says Goritz. “It’s a course to learn how to understand and appreciate classical music.” The course consists of five 1.5-hour sessions. Creative Club is designed specifically for children. The twice-monthly class allows 5-6 children to experience the creative process of making their own music with percussion and piano.
“Over the past eight years or so, the students I see seemed to be just crammed with info and so busy,” she says. “I don’t see them creatively correlating ideas and this is what Creative Club offers them – a chance to make music for themselves, to experience the creative process and really enjoy it.”
Music Theory Seminar ‘s five sessions provide the musician or student with the necessary skills to sight read, conceptualize and interpret any type of music.
“They will learn to see the notes as the musical equivalent of letters, and then form them into words, sentences and paragraphs,” explains Goritz.
The Exploration of Music Workshops is for performers of any age and focuses on in-depth study and performance of various musical aspects, like rhythm. Royal Conservatory of Music Workshops are an intensive preparation for students tackling the Conservatory exams. One of Michele’s students, Eric Gourdon, was recently awarded a Certificate of Excellence by The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Canada for achieving the highest grade in Level 4.
“She’s not strict, she’s passionate,” says Gourdon about his studies with Michele.
Michele Goritz is a multifaceted musician and educator whose solo and ensemble work is highly regarded. She has worked with members and directors of The American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, Classics Dance Theatre of Stamford and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, created scores for Ballet and Modern Dance and collaborated with well-known singer/songwriters like Edie Brickell on pop song arrangements and writing.
“You can enjoy music,” says Michele. “It’s something that kids and adults alike can learn now and call on and take pleasure in for the rest of their lives.”
