Neil Martin takes his ministry and dialysis equipment on a journey of hope

Independent Nephrology Services sponsoring cost of medical supplies

Online PR News – 25-September-2010 –Statesville, NC – Independent Nephrology Services patient, Neil Martin is carrying a much heavier load on his latest mission trip to Eastern Africa. He’ll have boxes containing his life saving dialysis equipment. He wouldn’t think of stopping his treatment or cancelling his mission trip. The two needed to go hand-in-hand.

“A core belief of our ministry is to restore one's faith in God and hope in lives of people around the world,” says Brother in Christ (BIC) Founder and CEO Neil Martin. “I know first-hand how important it is to have such faith and to share the hope that is given to us. We will be spending time at a few orphanages, in local schools, a health clinic and with the disabled.”

The November mission to Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania and Kenya might sound challenging for dialysis patients. Today, people like Neil can dialyze at home or on the road but shipping supplies to a place like Eastern Africa can be expensive and extra baggage fees can also add up. Independent Nephrology Services Statesville, an affiliate of Liberty Dialysis is sponsoring the cost of Neil’s medical supplies and coordinating shipping.

“Neil’s message is truly inspirational,” says Founder of Independent Nephrology Services and Chief Operating Officer of Liberty Dialysis, Ronald Sawyer. “His personal journey has lifted the spirits of his fellow patients at our Statesville center. We are committed to helping our patients live active and extraordinary lives.”

Neil Martin’s physician, Dr. Wolfgang Lohrmann says, “We are honored to support Neil and feel that peritoneal dialysis has allowed Neil to remain active, despite kidney failure.”

Peritoneal dialysis is the dialysis process where fluids are pumped into the abdomen and remove wastes from the blood every night while a patient sleeps. Peritoneal dialysis is a life-saving treatment to help patients when their kidneys no longer function. Unlike in-center hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis allows a patient to dialyze at home or from a location of their choice.

“To those who suffer from kidney disease, life is what you make it to be,” says Martin. “If you think positively, take care of yourself, and follow doctor instructions, then you can continue to live a normal life. As a person who already faces challenges in life with a physical disability (cerebral palsy), I just look at this as another challenge to face in life. But I refuse to let it hold me down in one place. “
