New Delhi Chief Minister inaugurates 220/33 kV GIS Substation commissioned by Areva T&D India

Smt. Sheila Dikshit, Honorable Chief Minister of Delhi, inaugurated the
220/33 kV Gas-insulated Substation (GIS) at the AIIMS Trauma Center, National Capital of India - New Delhi. The substation was successfully commissioned by Areva T&D India’s Transmission business (part of Alstom Grid) for its prestigious customer, Delhi Transco Limited.

220/33 kV Gas-insulated Substation (GIS) at the AIIMS Trauma Center, National Capital of India - New Delhi. The substation was successfully commissioned by Areva T&D India’s Transmission business (part of Alstom Grid) for its prestigious customer, Delhi Transco Limited.
This is Delhi Transco Limited’s first turnkey substation with both 220 kV and 33 kV Gas-insulated Switchgear, including eight bays of 220 kV GIS,and 22 bays of 33 kV GIS. The substation will improve the efficiency and reliability of power supply in South Delhi area, which is home to the two major hospitals of the heart of the city - the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Safdarjung Hospital.
Commenting on the occasion Mr. Rathin Basu, Managing Director, Areva T&D India Limited said: “We are proud to have contributed to the successful commissioning of the 220 kV GIS substation which will be a significant landmark in strengthening the power backbone of National Capital Delhi. We have the highest number of GIS substations installed in the country and were the first Company to establish a world class GIS local manufacturing facility at Chennai in 2009. The success of this project reinforces the capability of Areva T&D India in bring high end technology solutions to India and to reinforce its market leadership in the Transmission Grid domain in India.

The high voltage activities described in this press release are under the operational control of Alstom Grid and carried out in India through Areva T&D India limited, a company publically listed on the stock exchanges of India.
On 7 June 2010, the global activities of Areva T&D were acquired by a consortium of Alstom and Schneider Electric. Following this acquisition, the High Voltage Transmission and the Power
Electronics activities are to be carried on under the control of Alstom and the Medium Voltage activities under control of Schneider Electric.
In India on 3 December 2010, following the conclusion of a mandatory tender offer, Alstom and Schneider Electric announced that they had assumed operational control of Areva T&D India. The respective businesses will now be segregated in terms of a scheme of arrangement through a court process.
However, Areva T&D India will continue to operate under the Areva T&D name until the appropriate judicial process, according to Indian regulations, have been completed.
