New York / Berlin / Paris, September 16, 2011—artnet Auctions to offer Nam June Paik’s monumental 1998 sculpture Big Shoulder (Est. US$450,000–550,000).

A visionary, widely regarded as the pioneer of Video Art, Name June Paik is known for works in which videos are incorporated into sculptures constructed with a variety of television monitors. Composed of 16 individual television monitors housed in vintage audio cabinets, Plexiglas, and other discarded electronic equipment, Big Shoulder takes the form of a towering robotic figure.

Paik’s large-scale works have fetched over US$645,000 at auction, and similar examples can be found in prominent institutions throughout the world, such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, The Museum of Modern Art, and the Walker Art Center. Exhibitions of Paik’s work have been held at The Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney, the Centre Pompidou, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.

This work is currently live for bidding on artnet Auctions, and closes September 23, 2011.
