Online PR News – 12-January-2010 – – Harrison, ME - Fernwood Cove, a summer camp exclusively for young girls has completed construction of a new state of the art Culinary Arts Facility. Cooking instruction in the new facility will be available for the girls attending the summer camp beginning in June and July 2010. Fernwood Cove is located in Harrison Maine, and has been in operation since 1999.

While cooking instruction had been available on a very limited scale prior to the construction of this facility, the camp director is excited to be able to offer the girls so much more from now on. The new building is large enough to accommodate every camper interested in learning more about cooking.

The Culinary Arts facility has been a long time in the planning stage. Prior to this year, many girls had expressed an interest in learning to cook. Lessons had been offered, but were available to fewer campers.

Cooking instruction will be available for all skill levels and will include both basic cooking and baking for beginners. Each girl who takes cooking classes during her stay next summer will be ready to go home and cook a full meal for her family.

Fernwood Cove is located on 226 scenic acres in Harrison, Maine. The first session as a girls camp was the summer of 1999, and it has been very popular among young girls and their families ever since. There are two 3 1/2 week sessions offered each summer. Each session accommodates up to 200 girls aged 7-15, many of whom return year after year until they are too old to attend.

Because of the size and topography of the land, this camp is able to offer instruction and activities ranging from performing arts and theater to media and photography, water sports and outdoor adventure. Their programs are so diverse, well run, and appropriate for girls in this age group that Fernwood Cove is able to boast an 85% retention rate with their campers, and a 65% retention rate for the staff.

In addition to the regular summer sessions, Fernwood Cove also offers two winter ski weekends (skiing at Shawnee Peak) for their senior (15 year old) campers. The ski weekends will be January 29 31, and February 5 7. While these weekends are often already completely booked by this late date, this year there are still a few openings available. To register for these great weekends, call the offices at 207-583-2381, or email cove@fernwoodcove.com.
