Rolex - Max Angelelli And Martin Ragginger set the ball rolling

The drivers lead the final day of the Roar that opens up to the Rolex 24

Online PR News – 19-January-2010 – – Sunshine greeted the drivers on the final day of test sessions at the Daytona International Speedway. The tracks saw favorable weather conditions and sunshine, unlike day 2. With the test sessions wrapping up, the teams and drivers were seen fine tuning their strategies and engines to take on the challenge of the Rolex 24 At Daytona. The last day of practice was crucial as this would be the last time the drivers would have time to evaluate their performance and get time to adjust to the tracks. While Max Angelelli led the Daytona Prototype class, Martin Ragginger led the GT class with the fastest lap times. The practice sessions have finally led up to the excruciating 24 hours at Daytona which are scheduled to begin on the 30th of January.
Max Angelelli swept across the tracks at a speed of 127.032 mph, which helped him post the fastest lap at 1:40.888, in the No. 10 SunTrust ford Dallara. The Sunday practice was held under favorable conditions as the temperature was in the mid 40s and the skies were bright and sunny. The warm tracks were a welcome sight for the drivers as they had been battling sleet and icy conditions the first two days. Martin Ragginger finished a lap by stopping the watch at 1:49.627, in his No. 23 Alex Job Racing/ Foametix/Battery Tender Porsche GT3 to lead the GT class. The Rolex sessions were fortunate enough as they ran without any incidents and the only stoppages were for minor spins, debris and a blown engine.
Though Max Angelelli also became the favorite to claim the Rolex 24 pole, the qualifier for which is set to be on January 28, he stated that he was rather focused on winning the race. Max Angelelli won the claim by turning a lap of 1:40.466 on the first day of practice. He would be co-driving with Wayne Taylor, Rick Taylor and Pedro Lamy this year. The driver with the quickest overall was Leh Keen in the GT class. He ran a lap in 1:49.214 at a speed of 117.348 mph in the No. 41 Dempsey Racing/Team Seattle Mazda RX-8 on day 2. The second fastest with a lap time of 1:41.182, was Michael Valiante in the No. 6 Michael Shank Racing Ford Riley. His driving duties were shared by AJ Allmendinger, Brian Frisselle and Mark Patterson.
Driving the No. 99 GAINSCO Chevrolet Riley was Alex Gurney who was leading the afternoon sessions on Sunday with a lap time of 1:41.319. Alex Gurney would be accompanied by Jon Fogarty, Jimmy Vasser and Jimmie Johnson at the Rolex 24 At Daytona competition. The GT practice was lead by Spencer Pumpelly on Sunday afternoon when he posted a lap of 1:49.700, in the No. 71 TRG Porsche GT3. Spencer Pumpelly was ecstatic about being able to run with Tim George Jr. and Bobby Labonte in the Rolex 24 At Daytona and was also happy about being joined by Porsche factory drivers Romain Dumas and Timo Bernhard for the 24 hour endurance race. In the combined test Scott Dixon was second, followed by Michael Valiante and Scott Pruett.
