Xerafy's Metal Skin Inlay Changes the Rules of the Game for RFID in Tracking Metallic Assets

Xerafy’s breakthrough Metal Skin RFID inlay redefines the global metallic asset tracking market

Online PR News – 21-February-2012 – – Xerafy Ltd, a global supplier of industrial RFID tags, introduced the Metal Skin(TM) today, the world’s first true UHF EPC RFID inlay designed for tracking metal assets.

The Metal Skin is a high performance, low profile inlay family containing the Impinj Monza 4QT IC. Unlike most metal RFID tags on the market, the Metal Skin is lightweight, low profile and flexible to fit curved surfaces such as the contour of metallic cylinders and drums, with unprecedented performance.

“The market has been seeking a label form factor to track their metallic or RFID unfriendly assets where Auto-ID has proven to be effective, ” said Andrew Nathanson, vice president of AutoID Group at VDC Research. “The ease of use, performance, and affordability of the Metal Skin will incentivize the market to shift from early adopters to the majority.”

The revolutionary, patent pending RFID inlay comes in different sizes and is flexible for application on any type of surfaces. For example, a 3.54 in (90mm) length by 1.18 in (30mm) width and 0.027 in (0.68mm) thin Metal Skin will deliver an impressive read range of up to 13 feet (4 m) on metal and 16 feet (5 m) off metal. For label converters, the Metal Skin opens up a whole new class of metal assets for RFID smart labeling previously not possible with existing labels on the market.

“Xerafy has employed a totally different RF antenna design to convert an idea into a reality, changing the entire context of passive UHF RFID tagging on metal.” said Dennis Khoo, CEO of Xerafy. “The Metal Skin is a breakthrough technology that solves the physics limitation of RFID on metal that provides an edge in being able to enter new markets faster and deeper.”

The Metal Skin can be converted into different label sizes through standard label converting equipment and processes; logos and barcode can also be printed using standard RFID printers available in the market. Compliant to EPC frequency standards, the Metal Skin operates in global frequency and is versatile for a wide range of applications from product authentication and IT asset and laptop tracking to anti-counterfeiting of high value items and medical supplies and tracking assets shipped globally.
