Gordon Brown Backs Brit Writers’ Awards

The Prime Minister has written to the organizers of the UK’s largest ever creative writing competition, the Brit Writers’ Awards Unpublished 2010, giving his full support to the initiative.

Online PR News – 17-February-2010 – – Gordon Brown has joined both David Cameron and Nick Clegg in backing the awards which aim to inspire people across the country to get writing.

The awards are open to all unpublished writers regardless of age or ability. There are poetry and song categories as well as stories. A prize of £10,000 is on offer for the overall winner – the largest prize ever offered to an unpublished writer in Britain.

Hundreds of schools are taking part – with many teachers, parents and even grandparents entering the competition along with youngsters. Organisers are hoping for more than 50,000 entries.

The awards were praised by Gordon Brown for their role in bringing together communities.

In a letter to the event organisers Mr Brown said: “I am delighted to give my full support to the Brit Writers’ Awards Unpublished 2010.

“The Brit Writers’ Awards is not only another good way to develop individual creative writing for all ages, but a wonderful opportunity to increase understanding and respect within today’s Britain.

“I would like to congratulate you on creating another excellent event, and also to wish all participating writers the very best of luck for the 2010 awards.”

Event organiser Imran Akram said he was delighted to receive the Prime Minister’s letter of support.

Mr Akram said: “Our awards are open to all and celebrate our nation’s diversity. Writing is a way of bringing people together and uniting communities and it’s wonderful that Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Nick Clegg have all been in touch with us to offer their support.”

The submission deadline for the Brit Writers’ Awards is 26 February – entrants can submit poems and songs as well as stories. There will be winners in each category and a cash prize of £10,000 for the overall winner. To find out more please visit www.BritWriters.co.uk .
