BRT Announces Successful Victorian Rowing Masters Championships

Online PR News – 21-May-2012 – Ballarat, Victoria – The Victorian Rowing Masters Championships which was held from 19 May – 20 May will provide a nice lead in to the Australian Rowing Masters Championships which will commence this Thursday (24 May) and will conclude on Sunday (27 May).

The man-made lake was the venue for the 1956 Olympic Regatta, and now houses an Olympic monument to mark the end of the course. The lovely autumn weather served to enhance the lake’s picturesque beauty as well as provided ideal conditions for the rowers. It was a triumphant event which marked the return of rowing to Lake Wendouree after several years of drought.

Australian Rowing Masters Championships which will commence this Thursday 24th May

Ballarat is an ideal location that provides enjoyment as an ample contrast to the on-going competition as it has a multitude of dining options, historical sites such as Sovereign Hill, The Gold Museum, and a wide selection of shopping opportunities.

The local rowing clubs made their presence felt by winning three gold medals, four silvers, and one bronze. Local rower Leanne Martin won the female A-B Quad Scull. Her strong performance is expected to continue in the Australian Masters which kicks off this Thursday at the same venue.

Over 800 male and female competitors participated in over 70 races in Lake Wendouree, Ballarat for the duration of the three-day event. This number is expected attract more than double that number to participate in over 150 heats for the four-day Australian Rowing Masters Championships. Rowing enthusiasts are encouraged to bring their families to witness the event and stay in one of the local Ballarat Hotels.
