A KITCHEN planner has swapped ovens and sinks for boots and balls by taking up a secondment at Burton Albion.

Online PR News – 20-June-2012 – Burton on Trent – A KITCHEN planner has swapped ovens and sinks for boots and balls by taking up a secondment at Burton Albion.
Lee Milligan, who lives in Woodville and is employed by retailer John Lewis in Leicester, is spending three days a week with the Brewers for six months under his company’s Golden Jubilee Trust scheme.
The initiative was set up to offer practical help to UK-registered charities by meeting staff pay costs during their placements.
Albion fan Mr Milligan is working with the club’s community trust, a charity which uses sport to support adults and children with learning difficulties.
The 41-year-old is helping the disability officer set up and develop activities and programmes for its clients.
“It’s a perfect opportunity and completely different from my normal work,” Mr Milligan said. “It’s really good.
“Spending this amount of time at the trust means I can really see the difference my work will make, and I am really excited to be able to help the charity in such a meaningful way.
“The Golden Jubilee Trust allows me to share my experience from working at John Lewis, particularly additional training I have acquired while being with the partnership, such as FA qualifications, and I have seen how much charities can benefit from this in-kind support.
“My secondment will allow the trust to develop key activities”.
Andy Taylor, the community trust’s manager, said the support it was receiving from the Jubilee Trust was ‘invaluable’.
“It means we can concentrate on delivering our core services while learning from the experience Mr Milligan brings from his time at John Lewis,” he said.
“I hope the secondment will strengthen the relationship we have with John Lewis and that Mr Milligan will be able go back to John Lewis and share some of the things he has learned during his time with us.”
The John Lewis Partnership set up the Golden Jubilee Trust in April 2000 to mark the 50th anniversary of the coownership business structure.
Employees at any level within John Lewis or Waitrose can apply for a secondment to help a charity while developing new skills which can be used in their working and personal lives.
The Golden Jubilee Trust awards approximately 50 secondments each year on a full or part-time basis for a maximum of six months.
