Expressionist Passions of Beth Gandy at Agora Gallery

NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of American artist, Beth Gandy in Degrees of Abstraction.

Online PR News – 12-July-2012 – New York City – With an expressionist brushstroke and a colorful palette, Beth Gandy's large paintings reflect a profound understanding of shape and texture. Her works begin with a figurative basis, using underpainting in strong colors. Eventually they evolve and flow to the point of a cubistic abstraction. The subjects vary and are often overshadowed by the overall compositional achievement. These paintings, which are sometimes on recycled linen, exude a grainy consistency which is unique to Gandy’s oeuvre and which creates an interesting dialogue between the fabric and the newly applied paints. The texture is further intensified via the use of a palette knife; thus, brushstrokes are almost like paint stains, suggestive of the works of the early twentieth century Fauves. The works as a whole are also reminiscent of Abstract Expressionism; the influence of de Kooning resonates throughout the canvases. Gandy's discourse with the greatest artistic masters of the twentieth century is unmistakable, as is her own contribution to the process.

Based in Dallas, Texas, Beth Gandy sells her works in high end galleries and has been invited to be part of several group shows.
