New development coming to Traverse City

It's been quite literally a hole in the ground for the last eight years.

What many consider an eyesore in downtown Traverse City will soon become home to shops, professional offices and condominiums.

Online PR News – 29-June-2009 – – It's been quite literally a hole in the ground for the last eight years.

What many consider an eyesore in downtown Traverse City will soon become home to shops, professional offices and condominiums.

If you buy a condo at what will stand on what was once Traverse City's big hole, you could have a view similar to this one in a nearby building. After a previous attempt to build something at 101 North Park Street by a previous owner, it's been a hole in the ground for the last eight years.

That all ended today when a portion of the fence was lifted and new owner and developer Thomas Darga announced the construction of a five story mixed use development.

"This is a project that will bring livable downtown space. To renew and accelerate the vibrancy to take the black hole from a place of discussion to a prominent building in its place in Traverse City now and in the future," said Darga.

Bryan Crough is the director of the Traverse City Down Town Development Authority. He said, "This has taken longer than we wanted, but it's still going forward and it's the envy of downtown directors all over the state of Michigan and all over the U.S."

The new building will include three stories of residential units and two stories of commercial space. Bill Marsh, a prominent Traverse City car dealer and owner of a building a couple of doors down, is collaborating with darga on the marketing front. He thinks the project is coming at the right time for the community.

"In order to maintain that vitality, you need to build upon it in Traverse City. We need to attract more people to live in downtown Traverse City. This is a huge step in my opinion," said Marsh.
