Kathryn Designs Art Jewelry will be showcased and gifted to the biggest names in country music backstage at The 46th Annual CMA Awards taking place October 29 – November 1, 2012 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN.
Online PR News – 23-October-2012 – Baltimore, Maryland – Kathryn Designs Art Jewelry (http://www.kathryndesignsjewelry.com) is pleased to announce that, in association with The Artisan Group, it will participate in the official celebrity gift lounge in honor of The 46th Annual CMA Awards on October 29 – November 1, 2012 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.
Kathryn Designs Art Jewelry will have designs from its Sparkle Collection of gemstone mixed media jewelry showcased on display at The Artisan Group’s exhibit, and its Teardrop Gemstone necklace will be gifted to the biggest names in country music backstage at The Awards. This event will also be attended by over 25 media and press outlets.
Kathryn Doll, owner/designer at Kathryn Designs Art Jewelry, lives and works on the East Coast but she is a Kentucky native with a deep appreciation for country and bluegrass music. So when California-based The Artisan Group, a sponsor at the Official Gift Lounge for the Country Music Awards, approached her about submitting her jewelry for consideration as part of the CMA Awards Gifting, it was an easy decision.
"My pieces are hands-on and time-intensive,” said Doll. “I knew there would be a lot of work involved to make 85 individual necklaces and a display piece but with an opportunity this amazing, how could I say no?”
Doll’s design aesthetic leans toward bold yet muted colors, intriguing shapes and interesting juxtapositions. Her jewelry has been described as “modern materials meets innovative design equals bohemian/vintage appeal.” For the CMA Awards gift bags, she submitted a Teardrop Gemstone necklace in earthy, saturated hues of blue, rose, tan or purple, each accented with gemstone CZs and natural moonstones.
For the display piece she went for a Nashville vibe with a hinged cuff, necklace and amulet pendant in shades of turquoise, highlighted with fine silver, CZ gemstones and natural moonstones. “These pieces are from my gemstone, mixed media Sparkle Collection, which I launched earlier in the year with a gifting to Rachael Ray,” noted Doll. “My gemstone pieces have been very popular. They are colorful, different from what’s out there and the polymer clay adds an unexpected touch.”
Once the details were ironed out, Doll got down to work. Each piece involves several construction steps and numerous trips to the polymer clay oven along with a tricky resin finishing process. Getting everything done by the September deadline was a challenge but Doll was up for it. The necklaces and display are now on their way in Nashville, awaiting their turn to shine.
Doll has designed pieces for Tyra Banks, Vanessa Lachey, Carey Cucksey, Zooey Deschanel, and Jessica Alba. Recently, she sent a gemstone cuff to the stylist at ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars” and is awaiting word on whether the piece will be worn on an upcoming episode. Doll also displayed her jewelry at The Artisan Group exhibit at the GBK Gift Lounge for the 2012 Oscars, where actress Chelsea Rendon selected a Swirl Heart Necklace from the Curve Collection for her personal jewelry collection.
Doll was recently recognized for her work, with a feature in Summer 2012 issue of The Polymer Arts Magazine and was featured by LaunchHer as a “Freshly Launched Woman in Business” in May of 2012.

ABOUT KATHRYN DESIGNS ART JEWELRY
Kathryn Doll, the artisan behind Kathryn Designs (www.kathryndesignsjewelry.com), has been fascinated with creating jewelry since she pierced her Barbie Doll’s ears with a beaded straight pin as a child. Kathryn and her sister decided the occasional scratch from a pin sticking out of Barbie’s head was an acceptable risk in the name of adornment.
Over the years, Kathryn pursued art in many forms, such as painting, ceramics and collage work. She obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Creative Art, a Master’s Degree in Art Therapy and a Master’s Degree in Social Work. She developed a career as a clinical art therapist and social worker. In 2005, when she “discovered” polymer clay and metal clay she started a journey to a new venture as a jewelry artist.
She has developed a unique style of creating mixed media jewelry using innovative techniques in polymer clay, resin and metal clay. Each piece of jewelry is meticulously handcrafted and features layered and luminous colors.
Kathryn works from her studio in Maryland. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky and lived for many years in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
