Community Celebration Benefits Muscle Beach Toy Drive; LAPD Pacific Division to be Honored by City of L.A.
Online PR News – 30-November-2012 – Venice, CA – For the first time in 100 years, the historic Venice Sign display will welcome the holiday season and trade--in standard issue white lights for red-and-green colored bulbs, Councilmember Bill Rosendahl announced today.
The idea for the event, the Inaugural Venice Holiday Sign Lighting and Windward Crawl, was hatched by local restaurateur Daniel Samakow. The event starts at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 30, with performances by local music groups, followed by the ceremonial flip of the switch by actor and Venice resident Robert Downey Jr. at 8:00 p.m. Rosendahl will present the LAPD Pacific Division with a certificate of appreciation from the City for their annual toy drive.
Attendees are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped children's toys to benefit "The Muscle Beach Toy Drive" -- a Venice tradition sponsored by the Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Division. Police will distribute the toys to Westside families on December 15th. More details to follow.
The Venice Sign holiday lighting is a free event sponsored by the City of Los Angeles, the Venice Chamber of Commerce, and Windward Avenue Merchants.
