STRAY BOOTS LAUNCHES ANDROID APPLICATION

Company Expands Its Gamified City Tours with Launch of Android Mobile Application

Online PR News – 04-April-2013 – NEW YORK, NY – NEW YORK – APRIL 3, 2013 – Stray Boots, the leader in gamified city tour games, today announced the launch of its Android application, which means now travelers, techies and locals can take advantage of the richness and wealth of information available in Stray Boots’ native app offering previously only available by iPhone. Android tours are currently available on the Android app in Boston, Chicago, New Orleans, New York, Philadelphia, Portland, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington, DC, with the rest of Stray Boots cities becoming available later this spring.

Using the knowledge of local experts to create tours, the Stray Boots app provides an entertaining experience based on scavenger hunt-like trivia challenges for users to see the sights, learn history and gain insider information as they would on a guided tour, but without the hassle of reservations and tour guides. Now, all these aspects will be available through the unique interface of the Android mobile app, which means Android users can access much more information at each location they visit including fun facts and images that were not part of Stray Boots’ SMS-guided tour experiences. They can also share their experiences seamlessly with friends as they go via Facebook integration, and Google Maps to help them navigate from one stop to the next.

Before kicking-off a tour, users choose which part of the city they wish to explore. The app provides users with trivia challenges and clues that guide individuals to special points of interest, creating an on-the-go adventure that works like a self-guided scavenger hunt. In addition to the challenges, the game provides players with fun-facts as they visit each spot. Players are even able to participate at their own pace—it’s all the benefits of a guided tour without the limitations and time restrictions. Stray Boots tours are currently available in over a dozen US cities and will be rolling out its other locations and expanding new tours to additional cities throughout 2013.

Stray Boots games were first launched in 2009 as a completely SMS based experience, with Twitter sized tidbits of information. In November 2012, Stray Boots tours became available to users for download via the company’s first iPhone applicationin order to expand functionality andprovide rich media images for a more engaging user experience. The company reports that in internal surveys, iPhone app customers are rating the experience better, they're more likely to complete their tour, more likely to refer friends, and actually spend more money at local businesses along the way. Launching first only on iPhone also allowed the company to refine the app based on customer feedback prior to beginning Android Development over the winter.

“Exploring new cities should be fun and easy,” said CEO and Co-Founder Avi Millman. “Stray Boots has provided adventurers tens of thousands of tours to date, visiting over a million points of interest while on our tours. Now with the Android app, even more customers will get to enjoy the rich experience that smartphones enable us to provide. We want to continueto be the place travelers turn to while discovering the world and locals use to better explore and learn about their own backyard.”

The app can be downloaded in the Google Play store for free beginning April 3rd, 2013. Each tour can be purchased on the Stray Boots website and then activated within the app via an activation code. Tours range from $2-12.
