Church of Scientology Hosts “Baby Shower for Nashville”

The Church of Scientology is planning a “baby shower” donation drive to benefit needy families in Nashville, Tennessee.

Online PR News – 04-May-2013 – Nashville, TN – In a unique spin on a traditional activity, the Church of Scientology is planning a Baby Shower for needy families in Nashville. The concept arose when the Director of Community Relations, Julie Brinker, announced her own pregnancy and was asked if she was planning to throw a baby shower. Her answer was to throw a shower to benefit those who have babies and are struggling.

“It’s horrific to comprehend families with small children struggling to find shelter, or even eat,” says Brinker, “and as I’m preparing myself for a child, I can’t bear the thought of a mother not having the basic things she would need to care for that baby.”

The Shower is set for mid-June and will happen “on a weekend day where people can come and go,” says Brinker, “it will be very informal.”

The donations will benefit Safe Haven, a shelter-to-housing program, based in South Nashville that accepts the entire homeless family. Safe Haven provides comprehensive services that empower residents to achieve lasting self-sufficiency. According to its website, “Safe Haven has 28 years of experience in the changing field of family homelessness with proactive programs, evidence based practices and trauma informed care. We increasingly play a leadership role in education and advocacy to address this community-wide issue.”

Donations needed for the Baby Shower include unopened diapers (sizes 2, 3, 4, 5, 6), pull-ups, baby wipes, infant and toddler pacifiers, baby powders, lotion, baby shampoo, baby body wash and baby bottles.
