Eighth Annual International Youth Essay Contest Winners Announced

Dunn Loring, VA, 22 August 2013—Oakseed Ministries International is pleased to announce the winners of the 2013 Essay Contest: Compassion and Breaking the Cycle of Poverty. Over 300 essays were submitted by youth from 43 states and 14 different countries. The topic invited students to explore the issues related to the cycle of poverty, such as the effects of government on poverty, and to offer innovative ideas to help break this cycle.

The winners of the age 17 and under category are Ruth Aitken of Rockville, Maryland in first place, Lexie Ford of Garland, Texas in second place, Eno Etokidem of Tooele, Utah with an honorable mention, and Alyson Cromer of Monetta, South Carolina with an honorable mention.

The winners of the age 18 to 22 category are Amy Brouwer of Ontario, Canada in first place, Julia Puscas of Colchester, Connecticut in second place, Kelli Van Natta of Baytown, Texas with an honorable mention, and Rebecca Froehlich of Madison, South Dakota with an honorable mention.

First place winners receive an award of $500, second place winners receive an award of $250, and honorable mentions receive an award of $100. Winning essays are posted on Oakseed’s website http://www.2013oakseedessaycontest.com/winning-essays/.
