Online PR News – 16-January-2014 – Beloit, WI – January 13, 2014…The new Beloit Cancer Center is now treating cancer patients in a whole new way. Their comprehensive cancer services are now under one roof and the cancer team is ready to invite the community in for a showing. The Community Open House is scheduled for Saturday, January 25th from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

“The Open House will have the theme “Be a Cancer Fighter”,” explains Tim McKevett, President of Beloit Health System. “It will focus on prevention of and education about cancer, along with tours of the new Center. Our residents deserve the best in cancer care, and we are proud to offer this to our community, our patients, our employees and our medical staff. ”There will be a special opportunity to sign the first wrapped bus in Beloit showing the combined effort in our community to fight cancer.

The new $11.6 million Cancer Center is constructed on a five-acre parcel of land with a convenient location near major highways. The Cancer Center is designed to serve cancer patients in the broad region of Rock and Walworth counties, as well as those in northern Illinois.

“The new Elekta Linear Accelerator offers advanced cancer treatment and is used by some of the premiere cancer facilities in the country,” McKevett adds. “With the new technology, even the smallest cancer can be pinpointed.” The new Medical Oncology area offers 15 semi-private or private infusion areas with large windows overlooking scenic ponds and fountains.

“We are pleased that many patients can now stay closer to home while receiving the highest possible level of cancer care in Beloit,” said Dr. Jeffrey Grossman, president and CEO of the UW Medical Foundation. Donna Katen-Bahensky, the president and CEO of UW Hospital and Clinics, adds “offering unsurpassed cancer care in a patient’s own community is what UW Health strives to do and is an important part of patient- and family- centered care.”

Beloit Health System and UW Health strive to provide patient-and family-centered care. The new Center offers a home-like environment with integrative services such as counseling, dietitians, palliative care, and other important programs for cancer patients.

Dr. Walter Vogel, Medical Oncology; Dr. Peter Mahler, UW Radiation Oncology; and Dr. Shelly Johnsen, Family Practice and Palliative Care will be based at the new Cancer Center. This new facility and collaboration will facilitate participation in UW Health’s treatment protocols, video conferencing with UW Carbone Cancer Center, access to many of the UW Carbone Cancer Center clinical trials, and sharing of quality initiatives.

The Cancer Center offers complete cancer services at one location, rather than the previous division of radiation at the hospital and chemotherapy at Beloit Clinic. Services include medical oncology, chemotherapy and infusion, and advanced radiation therapy. It also features patient support services, along with serene indoor and outdoor surroundings.

The architectural firm for the Center is Plunkett Raysich Architects, of Milwaukee, and Klobucar Construction, of Beloit is the contractor.

Beloit’s Cancer Center is located at 1670 Lee Lane in Beloit, on the corner of Lee Lane and Milwaukee Road (Hwy 81) as you come into Beloit. Visit ImACancerFighter.com or call the Cancer Center at 608-364-5253 to find out more.
