Online PR News – 02-April-2014 – Toronto, Ontario – In honour of Earth Day 2014, Toronto’s Blue-Pencil Information Security is pleased to announce it has saved over a quarter million trees since the company’s inception in 2004. For every 200 lbs of paper documents shredded and recycled, one tree is saved. Shredding paper not only contributes to a business’s document security; it greatly contributes to the environment as all shredded material is recycled into new paper products.
Working with Trees Ontario (www.treesontario.ca), Blue-Pencil offers its customers a way to save the environment, one tree at a time. This year, Blue-Pencil presents a unique hands-on way for its customers to celebrate this year’s Earth Day 2014 theme – Green Cities. For every document destruction service booked in the month of April, a tree will be planted on their company’s behalf; replacing a lost and valuable resource for future generations to enjoy.
"Every business and private residence has an obligation to contribute to the well-being of our planet. Document and product destruction decisions made today will impact the Earth’s environment tomorrow. With the assistance of Blue-Pencil, we all need to take responsibility for our environment and protect it for future generations," says Mario Skopek, President of Blue-Pencil.
Hard drives, backup tapes, optical media, and retired computer equipment can also be securely destroyed by Blue-Pencil. Through their e-waste program, shredded hard drives and digital media are securely destroyed then sent to a facility for material separation and recovery. All shredded materials are processed into recycled paper products or disposed through Waste-to-Energy (WtE) incineration. Blue-Pencil utilizes an incineration process which is a green energy source whereby the clean burning of shredded material is used to create electricity. The benefits of WtE incineration far outweigh placing destroyed products into a landfill where they can leach into the groundwater and contaminate the environment. One ton of solid waste, for example, yields an entire barrel of oil, or a ton of coal – representing a 100% carbon credit.
