Wickenburg, Arizona (PRWEB) April 15, 2014 -- Dr. Bessel van der Kolk and Dr. Claudia Black, Senior Fellows with The Meadows addiction and trauma treatment center in Wickenburg, Arizona, will be presenting lectures on trauma at the 2014 Southeast Conference on Trauma, Addiction, Intimacy Disorders taking place in Nashville, Tennessee May 7-9, 2014.

Dr. Bessel van der Kolk will present the lecture “The Body Knows The Score” during the conference. This
lecture will explore important questions about trauma, how it affects people who have been through traumatic experiences and how it affects those around them. It will also examine the progression of trauma in the brain and what behaviors are typical of traumatized persons. As part of this excellent study, Dr. van der Kolk will delve deep into multiple techniques for dealing with trauma. The range of treatments includes classical methods and modern techniques that incorporate yoga, martial arts and more.

Dr. Claudia Black will present “The Addictive Family: The Legacy of Trauma” which will give a portrait of
addiction in the family. This offering is an overlay of how adverse child experiences, emotional abandonment and blatant violence are all aspects of trauma. She will also lecture on “Intimate Treason: Healing the Trauma for Partners Confronting Sexual Addiction.” Dr. Black will discuss the challenges partners of sexual addiction face and discuss a three-part recovery focus offering the audience a framework for treatment.

The Southeast Conference on Trauma, Addiction, Intimacy Disorders will address many of today’s most topical issues faced by professionals in the addiction and mental health fields. Nationally recognized speakers will present cutting edge issues, the latest research advances and clinical strategies with practical applications for front-line health professionals. State-of-the-art information will be presented in morning plenary sessions followed by skill building workshops affording interaction and discussion.
