Classical Christian Academy Receives Technology Gift from Nova Southeastern University

Nova Southeastern University donated 19 desktop computers to North Fort Myers private hybrid school.

Online PR News – 20-January-2015 – North Fort Myers, Fla. – Classical Christian Academy, a private hybrid school, received a generous gift from Nova Southeastern University: desktop computers for every classroom. The computers are Dell Optiplex 755 All In One desktop units from the university’s computer lab.

“This gift is a blessing to all of our teachers and students,” commented Mrs. Amy Davis, CCA principal and founder. “We’re honored Nova Southeastern University first thought of our school when considering a non-profit organization to bless.”

Previously, CCA classes shared a mobile laptop lab. Because of Classical Christian Academy’s unique hybrid model, teachers often use the three on-campus days to focus on work unique to a classroom setting: group projects, centers and peer assignments. This leaves the at-home days open for students to use personal computers and tablets to explore subjects online. With easier access to computers, CCA teachers will be able to quickly incorporate technology into their classroom discussions and lessons.

“Multimedia lessons help me hook my students,” explained Shannon Schram, Upper School teacher. “Computers won’t take the place of instruction and Socratic learning, but the benefits of engagement, visual descriptions, and research are unbeatable.”

As NSU prepared to update its computer hardware, the staff knew the desktops could benefit another non-profit organization. The computers came from NSU’s Jacksonville Campus and Fort Myers Regional Campus.

Dr. Kerry Whitaker, Department Chair and Program Director of the Physician Assistant program at the Jacksonville campus, donated and personally dropped off the computers from his campus. Before moving out of town, Dr. Whitaker served as a board member of CCA, his family was one of the first families at CCA and their daughter attended the school. His wife, Kathy, also taught art at CCA for three years.

Classical Christian Academy has the desktop units in each classroom and is now seeking grants and financial gifts to upgrade its wireless network and purchase additional software licenses.
