Dinner With Churchill Launches O'Connor Institute

Relive Historic White House Dinner Shared By Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill

Online PR News – 14-May-2015 – Phoenix, Arizona – On Saturday, October 17, 2015, guests will step back in time to experience a pivotal moment in history. The Sandra Day O’Connor Institute will re-create a historic White House dinner featuring Winston Churchill scholar Cita Stelzer, author of Dinner With Churchill: Policy Making At The Dinner Table. The evening will be moderated by Senator Jon Kyl.

The event will take guests back to December, 1941. On the same day as the December 7th attack on Pearl Harbor, Great Britain was also struck by Japan at British Hong Kong. In the wake of these attacks, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill sailed on a top secret and dangerous 10-day transatlantic voyage to meet with President Franklin Roosevelt. The fate of the world hung in the balance. Over the course of Churchill’s three-week day stay at the White House, he and President Franklin Roosevelt would craft the “Grand Alliance,” to join nations together to defeat Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany during World War ll.

“Dinner With Churchill” will take place in the Arizona Ballroom at the landmark Camelback Inn, which opened in 1936. To honor this significant time in history, the chefs of the Camelback Inn will re-create the White House dinner menu prepared for President Franklin Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill on December 25, 1941. Dinner Co-Chairs for the event are Sandy and Marion “Mac” Magruder and Lois and Steve Savage.

Individual seats are $250 US dollars (164 British pounds for our British allies). Guests will receive a copy of the book, Dinner With Churchill: Policy Making At The Dinner Table. In the spirit of Winston Churchill, who preferred to dress for dinner, attire will be black tie optional. Tables and event sponsorships are also available.
